BASS Threaded Mixer Library provides software developers with a BASS add-on that can be used for implementing a mixer channel in their application. Thanks to this library, plugged-in source channels are mixed in parallel threads. This results in a low-latency ASIO output with heavy processing of multiple sources.
Optimized for multi-threaded processing, this component is particularly useful for processors with a high number of cores but with a limited single-core performance. A few examples are the octa-core and more CPUs from Intel and AMD. The offline processing speed is multiplied by the number of cores the CPU is equipped with.
The efficiency of the library increases along with the number of sources that are added, since more DSP processing is required. On the contrary, when a single source is plugged in, no threading is performed and, what is more, the threading overhead is large. In other words, you can add any number of source channels to the mixer. The library supports 32-bit float source channels, meaning that the BASS_SAMPLE_FLOAT flag should be used when a new source channel is created.
The downloaded package comes with a binary tutorial application designed to help you understand how the library works. After customizing the number of sources and the number of samples to process, you can start a threaded test alongside a normal test for comparison.
