Most computers at home or in a work environment are at least connected to a local area network. This is especially useful for keeping sensitive or personal data from being leaked, with a lot of ways for it to leave the computer. Burn Protector Enterprise aims to let you manage more computers on the same network and block or restrict disk writing capabilities.
The application comes with two components, but you only need to deploy the application on the administrator PC, but also knowing the right credentials for target computers so you can access and process them remotely.
In order to be able to access any area of the application, you first need to set connection methods and computers you want to control. The initial screen asks whether to target a specific PC, from a local file list, by scanning an IP range, or adding from a domain/workgroup. Depending on your choice, you need to provide the proper credentials, TXT file, IP range or other helpful info.
Besides computers, you can set several folders to be protected, or let remote computers only use files found in those specific directories. This prevents unauthorised access to other files so that no sensitive info is leaked.
Moreover, the application gives you the possibility to set permission stats and build them into a deployment package which you then run on PCs that need protection. Running it unveils an interface that resembles a common CD/DVD burner, but with a few more details.
This counterpart is the client that needs to be used by monitored computers. Only files from protected folders can be selected, optical writers that are enabled, as well as burn-specific options such as writing speed, whether or not to verify data, and allow files to be added later on.
Bottom line is that Burn Protector Enterprise comes with a neat solution and extra layer of security you can add to computers in your local network. Although a bit confusing at first, the whole process of adding computers, imposing restrictions, and even burning files is pretty easy to grasp and poses no serious accommodation problems.
