Developers who need a dedicated way of controlling cameras over a certain network can resort to a proxy solution. CameraProxy was designed specifically for such uses, and it will employ a Windows service which is based on the .NET Framework and parts of the VLC media player libraries.
Being compatible with multiple browsers, the service runs on a simple embedded HTTPS server and it will offer users several distinct capabilities. For instance, one will be able to access all of the cameras that are currently connected to a respective network, by means of a single access point, both locally or remotely.
A live webcam view can be offered to other users, without providing any additional access privileges, this way avoiding any of the potential flaws that many publicly accessible webcam services carry. In order to reduce the usage strain on the network load and camera-associated CPU that have multiple viewers, CameraProxy’s service will create only single-user loads on each camera.
Users must note that the application supports most cameras that can provide JPEG-format still images or MJPEG-format streams via HTTP, together with HTTP authentication. Support for proxying full RTSP or h264 streams using live555 and the VLC web plugin is still in the experimental phase.
