SendFile is a tool intended for transferring files from your computer to your Sony Ericsson or older Ericsson mobile phone. Yes, that is its sole purpose. It may sound awkward, but back in 2000, the year of its release, it made a hell of a difference.
For those of you that are not aware of the tech-level of the year 2000, let’s just say that a phone back then was just a phone. That year marks the inception of the touchscreen era and, if you had a 1.3 MP camera on your phone, you could easily count yourself amongst the few people on the planet to own such a thing.
The same year, Nokia sold approximately 130-million units of one of the most popular in the world - the 3310, while Ericsson announced one of the first phones with a WAP browser. Everything seems to have been simpler then; however it took 10 years between 1998 and 2008 for a company other than Nokia to sale the most mobile phones and that was Apple.
Ericsson’s first best year was 1998 with estimated sales of 26-million sold units placing them on the third spot behind Nokia and Motorola. The next two years found Ericsson on the same position trailing the same companies. Since 2001, Ericsson sealed a deal with Sony and together they competed against other moguls such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens or LG.
In 2012, Sony has bought the shares from Ericsson and the company continued selling mobile phones branded with the Sony logo since then. SendFile has attracted a huge number of users fast and it really was an essential tool for every Ericsson and Sony Ericsson mobile phone owner. It could easily transfer ringtones, contacts, games and virtually any other file to the memory of the phone.
