ClearDefenderHistory

ClearDefenderHistory provides users with a PowerShell script designed to allow the quick and simple cleanup of the detection history in Windows Defender.

Whether you want to have older detections removed from the history just for maintenance or you need Windows Defender to have its definitions updated and mark a file as clean, clearing the detection history with ClearDefenderHistory can be a solution.

Using ClearDefenderHistory is a breeze, but keep in mind that, due to its purpose and actions, you might need to have it launched with administrator rights.   The script can temporarily put the Windows Defender protection on hold to have the protection history cleared. Once the cleanup is completed, Windows Defender is restarted, and the protection is resumed to the original configuration to keep your computer secure.

It is worth mentioning that, as a security precaution, ClearDefenderHistory does not take ownership of Defender’s folders.

Using ClearDefenderHistory only requires you to double-click on the BAT file inside the downloaded archive. A UAC prompt might be displayed if the application is not launched with elevated rights. To avoid this, you can also right-click on the BAT file and check “Unblock” in the “Properties” window.

A temporary scheduled task is created by ClearDefenderHistory, running as a TrustedInstaller. The script waits for the installer to complete and times out if the process takes too long.
