Conductor Ampacity Calculator CEC is a handy software package that gives you two calculators. These tools help you find the right ampacity for underground cable setups. What's cool is that you can tweak settings to see the allowed range values for the best cabling!
Once you download one or both packages, you'll need to set things up. Start by unzipping the downloaded files. Each package comes with three important resources:
To get started, double-click on the 'setup.exe' file. Once you've installed it, head back to where you first extracted the files (like 'Conductors_Ampacity_NEC-R1121' or 'Conductors_Ampacity_CEC-R1121'). Then, just double-click on that cabinet file again to extract it into a folder of your choice.
Now you're ready! You can choose either AmpacityNEC for calculations in the US or AmpacityCEC for Canada.
The AmpacityNEC calculator lets you switch between two conductor types: aluminum (AL) and copper (CU). You can also toggle between insulated conductors (Raceway or Cable) and Single-Insulated conductors while adjusting factors like ambient temperature and ampacity corrections.
AmpacityCEC, on the other hand, has a more compact interface. It still includes AL/CU options, along with input settings for Raceway or Cable or Free Air. Plus, it allows changes in insulation temperature (in Celsius) and modifications based on ambient conditions and wire counts.
The great part? Both tools are completely free and provide super accurate calculations! However, keep in mind that some folks might find the installation process a little tricky if they're not too techy.
