Daily Desktop

Everyone has their own preferences in terms of wallpapers. Whether it is going for a particular look, changing wallpapers every X number of days, and so on, it's up to the individual how to go about their customization. It's not exactly rare for people to change their desktop photo every couple of days or weeks.

If your lock screen can greet you with a new photo each time you boot up your system, thanks to Windows Spotlight, why can't your desktop? Daily Desktop is the app to use in that scenario: new desktop wallpapers whenever you want them, from many distinguished providers.

While the installation process isn't anything special, adding the providers requires a smidge of additional work. The problem here is that the app comes with no preinstalled wallpaper sources, which means that you'll have to add them yourself. The process is easy enough: download the .dll files, then open the app's Providers folder, and drop them there.

The sources will appear after restarting the app: we added Bing, Calvin and Hobbes, DeviantArt, False Knees, and pixiv — more are available on the developer's page.

The app fetches the most popular photo of the day from a given provider. Depending on your preferences, you can have it fetch wallpapers from Bing or Unsplash, or the most popular artwork of the day on DeviantArt or pixiv. Alternatively, it can also fetch Calvin and Hobbes and False Knees comics.

In the Options menu, users can pick when their wallpapers get updated. There's also a Blurred-fit mode, which makes smaller or higher resolution images fit on one's screen. If the photo is too small, the app can blur the space to account for the lower resolution: users can tweak the background blur strength to their liking.
