DarkNetTools is a command lint utility that features a ping tool, a port scanner and other network tools, such as: Domain Whois, Reverse IP Lookup and Traceroute. You simply have to type in the correct syntax and you will be able to ping any hostname, find out the PC name for any IP address, so you can easily check whether a connection issue is due to faulty configurations on your part or the ISP.

Besides allowing you to check your hostname, the utility lets you check the ports so you know whether the connection issue is due to the fact that a specific port is closed on a particular computer. Alternatively,  you can ensure that ports that are vulnerable during an update or migration are closed and hence, your corporate network is not vulnerable to any type of attacks.
