Even though installing a printer is a simple and straightforward process, the same cannot be said about removing it. In fact, many users have reported problems with Windows 10 refusing to uninstall printers, including a freeze with the 'being removed' status and still viewing recently removed hardware in the Device list.
Delete unnecessary Printers is a script designed to address this frustrating issue, as it can remove all devices. According to the developer, the script can be altered to match the language of the operating system or the one of the default printers or office installation. Using the script entails copying it to the folder where the devices' software are installed and running it as administrator.
The script can come in handy for a wide variety of situations, starting with having too many printer installations on the system that create incompatibilities with a newer device. More often than not, the leftover driver packages or registry entries are the main culprits on why a new printer cannot be properly discovered and/or installed.
While Windows should be able to clean both registries and obsolete files, it simply does not happen with printers as well as other applications and anything else installed. The operating system is designed to keep all these things just in case you need it again.
