Designers Ruler

The process of creating an interface for programs, or even web pages requires a lot of thought, and depends on various details. Elements need to perfectly fit on screen and blend with each other. As such, Designers Ruler comes with the means to help you measure parts of the screen for proper integration of design elements.

Since setup takes little of your time, you quickly get the chance to check out the application’s set of features. When launched, a single ruler shows up on the desktop. On the bright side of things, it’s possible to launch multiple instances in case you need more rulers, with an easy method to set orientation to either horizontal or vertical.

Just to make it more comfortable to measure elements, the ruler always sits on top of every other window, with no option to toggle this attribute. However, you can minimize a ruler by hitting the F11 key, while bringing it back up is simply done by interacting with the associated taskbar icon, because it doesn’t minimize to the tray area.

Placing rulers on the desktop is easily done by dragging them over the desktop, while using the arrow keys allows for an accurate movement of rulers. Right-clicking a ruler brings up a small menu with several options to manage visuals, as well as measuring unit selection.

Unfortunately, transparency can’t be adjusted, which can be a real pain. Measurement units include inches, centimeters, and pixels. On the downside of things, you can’t adjust the length of rulers, which is pretty disturbing, since you get a maximum of 700 pixels in width, and 400 in height.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Designers Ruler isn’t really the measuring tool which provides the required flexibility, mostly because of the lack of transparency options, or possibility to adjust length of rulers.
