Most use a single computer for work and education, entertainment and leisure and gather lots of applications and data stored in folders and documents. While it would be great to have a secondary PC for home use, that is often not possible. Having that in mind, the developers of DesktopUp created a tool that can separate workspaces and help you quickly access the files and folders you need at a certain time.
Some might argue that Windows already has a multi-desktop tool and that is true, but what DesktopUp brings to the table is the possibility to associate a folder to a desktop and automatically display its contents for quicker access.
The application comes in two flavors: a standard installer and a portable tool. Opting for the latter is more convenient, since there is no need to go through a setup process and, what is more, the application leaves no traces in the registry of the host workstation. Moreover, the portable edition can be launched from any removable drive and used on the go.
The simplistic interface bundles all the options and functions in one window, while also displaying the name of the currently selected desktop. Creating a new desktop is a matter of a few clicks. You must enter the desktop’s name and select the folder you want DesktopUp to show.
You can create as many desktops as you need and delete the ones you decide not to use with the click of a mouse. Not just that each desktop can have an associated directory, but you can also configure DesktopUp to open certain programs when using the desktop. The folder's contents are automatically placed on the desktop and the programs are automatically launched. To open one of the created desktops, you simply must select it and hit the “Use” button. To open the default Windows desktop, just click on the “Windows” button.
DesktopUp is an interesting piece of application that creates new workspaces on your computer, each associated with the needed programs, files, and folders. For instance, you can create a desktop with an associated photo folder, which launches your favorite graphic editor and another with an associated code editor and a folder containing programming-related documents and data. No matter how you choose to use it, DesktopUp makes it easier to find files and work on multiple projects at the same time in different workspaces.
