DirEvents is a handy little console tool that helps you keep an eye on what’s happening in your directories. If you have a sensitive folder or think something shady might be going on, this tool can help you track changes made to that specific folder.
Before you dive in and run the program, make sure you're logged in with an Administrative account. If not, you might hit some walls when trying to access certain directories. When you launch DirEvents, it gives you a clear rundown of what to expect from the output. The first line shows the time of the event recorded. You can learn more about what triggered the event by checking out the second and third columns.
You probably guessed it: the fourth and fifth columns tell you about actions related to each event. This includes actions like files being added, removed, modified, or renamed. If you're curious about where the file that was changed is located, just peek at the sixth column!
The developer even provides Batch and PowerShell scripts to show how to handle the output from this tool. You can find these examples in the program itself!
It's true that we usually know about certain things happening on our PCs—like antivirus scans or video downloads—but there are plenty of other actions we might not expect or even realize are taking place. That's where DirEvents comes into play! This tool is here to help monitor every change made in your folders and subfolders on your system.
