DKRuler is a software tool that puts a vertical and horizontal ruler at your disposal for measuring any objects or distances on the screen. It features a couple of intuitive options that can be easily tackled by all types of users.
Setting it up doesn't take long and requires minimal attention, since there are no unfamiliar settings or third-party components involved. However, .NET Framework must be installed, since it was built using Microsoft's platform.
Once fired up, DKRuler gets integrated into the system tray to facilitate quick access to its options while letting you continue with your normal desktop work without any interruptions.
The horizontal ruler can be moved anywhere on the screen by clicking and dragging it. You can bring up the vertical ruler by opening the right-click menu, adjust the width and height by clicking and dragging the margins, as well as replace the display picture with a custom file with the .jpg, .gif or .bmp extension.
It didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, since it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. We haven't come across any stability issues, as it didn't hang, crash or indicate errors.
On the other hand, some of the options displayed have been poorly implemented, such as the translucent ruler without ticks, or not implemented at all, like the 45-angle ruler without ticks. Help documentation is available.
To sum it up, DKRuler comes packed with a basic set of options for measuring on-screen objects and distances using vertical and horizontal rulers. However, some of its features are rudimentary. We must also keep in mind that it hasn't received updates for a long time.
