DnaSP or DNA Sequence Polymorphism is a Java-based tool that helps you analyze nucleotide polymorphism. So, what’s that? Well, it refers to the differences in the nucleotide sequence between individuals. These differences can range from simple single base pair changes to variations in how many copies of a specific DNA sequence are found.
This software is perfect for scientists and students who want to estimate DNA sequence variations within and between different populations. It’s also great for looking into linkage disequilibrium, recombination, gene conversion, and gene flow. Plus, it offers several neutrality tests, which are super handy!
DnaSP has a lot to offer when it comes to specialized tests and analyses! You can use it for Tajima’s Test, Fu and Li's Tests (and more), Gene Conversion analysis, Synonymous and Non-Synonymous substitutions, as well as InDel or Insertion-Deletion Polymorphism. And let's not forget about Conserved DNA Regions!
There are even more tools included! You’ll find an Evolutionary Calculator, Discrete Distributions functions, HKA test (Direct Mode), Test of Independence with a 2x2 table, along with various Coalescent Simulations.
With DnaSP, generating DNA Sliders is a breeze! You can also create Haplotype Data Files, Reverse Complement Data Files, ms (Dick Hudson) Data File Format files, Concatenate Data Files, and Translate to Protein Data files. It really packs a punch when it comes to data handling!
