DogFight

DogFight is a nerdy screensaver that luckily has nothing to do with gruesome dog fights. The "dog fight" term comes from military history, describing two enemy planes engaging each other in short-range combat. Given these points, DogFights simply turns your screen into a spaceship battle, where the Star Trek's famous Enterprise vessel squares off against up to three Klingon Bird of Prey attackers.

When activated, a galaxy-theme layout will take over the screen. The fight will immediately commence, by default, with a 1 v 1 standoff. They have functional shields and health bars. What the ships don't have is a good aim. However, this is surely intended, as a good aim would have made fighting sessions shorter.

While the 3D-rendered models still have a sharp look to them, the fighting feels a bit junky, especially since the ship's routes are random, and they can change direction very fast. The sound section sports only a couple of 8-bit tunes for ship fire and direct hits.

Dogfight can be set up through the Screen Saver Settings within the OS, yet its Settings have a GUI matching the overall theme. From there, the user can change the background's state, adjust ship speed, tweak the damage and shield, determine the number of opponents and switch sound on or off. Testing a setup is also possible, for those who wish to inspect the screensaver before use.

To conclude, Dogfight provides you with a rowdy spaceship battle using 3d-rendered models from the Star Trek franchise. The screensaver has a good number of options that change how things are going on your screen, and its game-like appearance might still catch on to some individuals, in spite of its age.
