Dynamic IP updating can be done in various ways, but Dynamic DNS client for Windows brings to the table a Windows service that is both easy to deploy and configure.
For your convenience, Dynamic DNS client for Windows enables you to make the necessary changes in the configuration during setup. To provide dynamic DNS services, you must set the parameters of the external server, including the client's hostname, the server's name, the connection type (HTTP or HTTPS), and the login information (username and password).
The Dynamic DNS client comes with support for various dynamic DNS protocols, such as dyndns2, dyndns1, concont, changeip, couldfare, easydns, freedns, to name just a few. The characteristics of each of these protocols are displayed during setup.
Dynamic DNS client for Windows is deployed as a Windows service, but you get to choose whether it should be installed as a network service or deployed on the local computer only. Please keep in mind that, when launched as a service, the client stores the cached data and its logs in the local AppData folder.
The purpose of a service-based Dynamic DNS client for Windows is to avoid having to deploy ddclient on all the Windows workstations that need DNS updating.
