If you’ve set the default download destination to all programs, then you’re in for some trouble. It’s not that big of a deal, but the desktop space can quickly fill up with items you don’t really need. Luckily, specialized applications like Easy & Fast Desktop let you create a custom launcher for frequently used tools and programs to keep your workspace clean and tidy.
You don’t even have to go through an installer to make the application work, which means you can carry it around on a USB flash drive, and even use it with other portable programs or stuff of interest found on the same removable drive. However, the computer you use it on needs to be equipped with .NET Framework for things to work out as expected.
On launch, the application brings up a rather poor looking panel, with different slots for programs you can add, as well as multiple tabs for configurations and other areas. Probably the only advantage is that you can fill in the slots with any kind of file, and not just executables. The corresponding icon also loads to make identification easier.
Moving to the documents tab lets you access some Windows specific tools, such as NotePad, Calculator, the Command Prompt, Paint, Snipper, and Recorder. There’s a built-in option you can configure to have your PC automatically shut down when the clock strikes a custom time value.
When not used, the application can quietly sit in the tray area, with a corresponding icon that can either be used to bring up the main window, or access configured items. Unfortunately, the application is a little rough around the edges, and you’re only able to create a limited number of quick launch options.
Programs like Easy & Fast Desktop have been around for quite some time, coming in the form of toolbars, and other intuitive designs. However, this application is neither fast nor easy as the name wants you to believe, feeling like it’s still in early stages of development. Slots are pretty limited, while the overall presentation of features is rather confusing.
