An operating system is equipped with basic tools to start off any activity. Special ones are also used to keep the whole system safe, an area more commonly known as the control panel. If you don't really feel at home when navigating through what Windows puts at your disposal, applications like EasyAdmin want to bring all necessary system management tools in an intuitive, compact and practical dashboard.
The application is portable, which means that if you store it on a USB Flah drive, chances are it's going to work without an installation, regardless of the computer you plug the device into. This is because the core function is simply to provide quick access to certain Windows features without making any changes to registries.
As soon as you run it, a compact window shows up on your desktop, fitted with a few categories such as hardware, software, network and server, found under intuitive icons. There's an additional options button, but there's little to be found besides a few arrangement settings and language selection.
The name of each area gives you a general idea of what can be accomplished. Unlike what you might expect, there's not a lot of variety and the application stopped receiving updates some time ago, which makes certain links obsolete on latest Windows iterations, just like the case with Dr. Watson that can't be accessed on Windows 8, for instance.
Hardware quickly makes sure you reach the task manager, display settings, sound and audio, disk management, as well as DirectX diagnostics tool. Keep in mind that no other utilities other than Windows default ones are brought up, so don't expect anything out of the ordinary.
Application handling refers to access to MS Config, the uninstaller, regedit, DOS prompt, system properties and recovery. Moving on you find the network menu, which only takes you to the connection setup screen.
Last but not least, network administrators might find the server category useful, with quite a decent amount of items like computer administration, domain security settings, fileserver administration, group access editor, services, demote desktops and more.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that EasyAdmin doesn't brings anything new on the block, being nothing more than a desktop utility that provides quick access to several important management tools. Lack of recent updates rather questions modern practicality, as well as the missing option to add custom shortcuts for a little more flexibility.
