There’s a lot more you can keep on your desktop. For instance, sticky notes help you remember certain upcoming events, activities, or simply to serve as a quick writing pad. In case default Windows features don’t quite tickle your fancy, alternatives like Elmas Note might just be what you’re looking for.

Before you can go off checking out the application’s set of features, you need to make sure that .NET Framework is installed on your computer, because it’s a required component for functionality. On the other hand, this is a default feature in modern Windows iterations, so there’s a high chance it’s already on your PC.

A cool, transparent note appears on your desktop on launch, with all related functions stored in the upper toolbar, automatically hiding when a different window is active. You can’t resize a note, and font is a little too big for large text strings to be easy to read. What’s more, there aren’t any customization options text-wise, so you need to get used to this inconvenience.

You’re not limited to a single note, with a new, blank note showing up at the press of a button. Chances are it’s also fitted with a different color, but there are only two built-in color tones, and again, no possibility to visually customize your notes. Moreover, you need to know what each note is used for, because titles aren’t implemented, thus can’t be edited.

When done adding text, a note gets minimized to the tray area. However, each note creates a different tray icon, quickly filling it. This isn’t necessarily an issue, but you can’t tell which is which from the tray icon, because of the lack of a tooltip to at least show a small preview of content.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Elmas Note comes with good intentions, but all of its simplicity does more harm than good, and features don’t really seem to blend together. Titles can’t be added, making it impossible to differentiate notes in the tray area whilst minimized, and lack of customization options further affects overall practicality.
