Wordpad and Notepad are the default text editors you can use in Windows without having to install any extra components. However, you’re only able to perform basic text editing, while documents under exported formats are not exactly safe. For extra protection, EncryptedPad comes with the same capabilities of Notepad, with the addition of an encryption method.

Because of the development tools used to build the application, you need to make sure that .NET Framework is on your computer so it can run. The installation process, on the other is short and uneventful, keeping you busy only for a little while.

The visual design resembles much of the default text editors found in Windows to make accommodation a walk in the park for individuals of all levels of experience. Most of the space represents the preview area, and tools are accessed from the upper menu bar, or the context menu, but just for basic alignment options.

Sadly, file support is only limited to TXT, which you can also import through a drag and drop operation. Needless to say that editing is done in real time, with the possibility to also save as TXT later on. However, the application’s specialty is encryption, and it comes with several popular algorithms in this regard.

In order to encrypt, you need to choose the specialized format when saving, namely the EPD. This brings up a small prompt letting you select the encryption method you wish to use, such as DES, RC2, Triple DES, and Rijndael. A password also needs to be provided, with the minimum character requirement of five.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that EncryptedPad is a lightweight application you can use to keep plain text documents secure. Although you can only work on plain text files, encryption methods at your disposal make the whole experience worth your while.
