Databases don’t necessarily have to be a thing you need to connect to the Internet for, with different applications being able to store all of your data in an organized format. One example is Excel, capable of much more. In case you need to convert Excel output files to XML, then EX-Converter is sure to help you out.
One aspect in particular you notice right after the download is finished, is that there’s no installation involved, which means you can directly run it, and even carry it on a USB flash drive. What’s more, Office doesn’t have to be installed on the computer you run it on, because the application can easily read data and convert by itself. Another benefit of portability is that the target PC’s health status remains intact.
On the visual side of things, the application stores all of its features in a classic window frame, with no shiny elements to create confusion or make it stand out from the crowd. The overall design is pretty intuitive, letting even inexperienced individuals get the hang of things in no time at all.
EX-Converter works well with both XLS and XLSX files. Loading them needs to be done via the built-in browse dialog, because dragging them over the main window has no effect. Apart from the input file, you also need to specify the location where the newly-generated XML file goes, but you also need to write down the extension manually, otherwise you end up with a plain file.
Before the process can be put in motion, some mandatory fields need to be filled in accordingly. Active sheet, start and end rows, names, and whether or not you picked test case or suite, level folders also need to be specified.
Moreover, additional fields are there so you can specify importance, summary, predictions, actions, as well as expected results. There’s also a log window that shows the whole process in real time, with the possibility to have content copied to be analyzed.
Bottom line is that data is stored in various different files, which might represent requirements for some situations, and this is exactly where EX-Converter helps out. However, it feels a little rough around the edges, with little documentation provided, but the overall design is pretty simple and self-explanatory.
