ExeDesk Professional Edition is a tool designed for this very purpose. It can create up to nine virtual desktops with different layouts, each having unique icons, buttons and images.

For example, when it comes to buttons, you can adjust the text size, make the text bold, apply any color, set the icon source, specify the exact button position using coordinates, and create an action like running a macro or controlling a media player.

More themes can be loaded from file or downloaded from the web. You can also save and export the configuration file, change current desktop settings, organize windows and browse objects, as well as access the OS built-in display settings to make any modifications.

All aspects considered, ExeDesk Professional Edition delivers a user-friendly interface and practical options for helping you put together virtual desktops. Too bad that it's no longer in development.
