Feed Notifier

Feed Notifier is an ulta-simplistic app that shows notifications whenever you get new feeds. It basically sits in the system tray and pops up a message once in a while when news arises.

The installation operation is very quick. The only thing notable about it is that Feed Notifier offers to automatically run at system startup.

Once started, the tool creates an icon in the tray area. The first step you need to take is add new RSS or Atom feeds by specifying their URL, title, polling interval and border color.

Form this point on, a message box pops up from the bottom right corner of the screen, showing the feed title and description. You can open links in the default web browser, as well as navigate feeds.

As far as program preferences are concerned, it is possible to edit and delete feeds, view total items and clicks for each URL, set up filter rules to include or exclude feeds, use a proxy, disable automatic checkups for updates, and establish the number of days for caching popup history.

Speaking of popups, their behavior can be manipulated by setting the on-screen duration and disabling sounds, while their appearance can be customized in terms of position, monitor, border, width, transparency, border size, along with maximum title and body length when it comes to content.

Feed Notifier is prompt in displaying new feeds. It does not put a strain on computer performance, as it runs on low CPU and RAM. We have not come across any unpleasant surprises in our evaluation. It may not be feature-rich, but Feed Notifier offers a very simple solution to get updates from your favorite feeds, without worrying about customizing complex options.

There is also a portable edition available called Feed Notifier Portable, in case you want to run the app directly from a mass storage device.
