Some formats allow you to attach notes, comments or amendments to a file, in case you need to specify a few details about it. For instance, standard JPEG images has a dedicated comments field, but that is not really common.

On the other hand, most file types can be attached notes without getting corrupted and that is where FileNotz comes in.

To use FileNotz, first double click on the main executable to launch a note and right-click on the note’s window. A menu opens up, allowing you to add FileNotz to the context menu in Windows. You can also add it to the “Send To” menu.

To attach a note to a file, just right-click it and use the “Open FileNotz” option in the right-click menu. Alternatively, you can drop a selected file on a shortcut or the open application. The same happens if you use the new item in the “Send To” menu of Windows.

If there are notes attached to a file, FileNotz will reveal them. Otherwise, you can edit the content of a note to attach the information to the selected file.

Files with attached notes can be used normally, exactly as any other file: you can run it, copy or move it to a different location, include it in an archive, sent via email, and so on. However, any modification to the content that involves re-saving or overwriting the file does not carry the added notes with it. You can make a file with notes read only to prevent accidental overwriting.

While FileNotz is opened, the file can be used or launched normally. However, keep in mind that FileNotz cannot update a file in use.
