Filetopia

Filetopia is a peer-to-peer file sharing client that enables you to share and download files with other users over the web. It offers support for a search tool, chat mode, and friends list.

At startup, you're greeted by a simple wizard that invites you to set up a new account with a user name and password, along with your main interest (e.g. audio, video, software). The nickname must be reserved for the current and all future logins. As far as the connection settings are concerned, you can select the connection speed, method and proxy (if necessary).

In the following wizard step, you can pick the local directories you wish to share over the web. There are two file sharing methods: free share mode (share and download files without restrictions or permission) and trade mode (only with specific users or channels, requires permission). The interface can be displayed in two ways: for novice or expert users. Moreover, the application can be asked to autorun minimized to the tray at every Windows startup.

After connecting to the Filetopia network, you can view a list with all channels organized into different categories by interest and pick the ones you want to join to meet new people. You can obtain user information, send and receive messages, customize font properties while chatting, enable sound alerts, send whisper or ping commands, create a DCC multi-user chat, edit notes, as well as ignore users or add them to a friends list.

It's possible to search for files in the whole network or joined channels only, specify the number of minimum connections to take into account, as well as to filter content by category. Apart from the fact that you can download files, you can add them to a watchlist, send the owner a message, copy file links, and view other sources.
