With the overgrowing number of cyber-attacks of all kinds, it is only normal that browsers become more and more cautious when it comes to the security level of visited websites. As a result, major browsers now warn the user or even block webpages that have certificates that do not meet the minimum-security standards.

If a site’s certificate is expired, self-signed, revoked or if there are missing or revoked certificates in the chain of trust, there are high chances that the access to the site is blocked. Checking the validity of the certificates and their chains is very important.

Designed to provide a simple and easy solution to the aforementioned issue, the FireDaemon Inspektor is a command line application that helps you check the validity of SSL and TLS certificate chains. The console SSL client features simple options that allow you to connect to one or more hosts via SSL to check their certificates.

When executing the main application via the command prompt, you get instructions on how to use the SSL client, explanations about the parameters and usage information for each subcommand.

To run the client, you must execute the SSL client together with the “connect” argument and the addresses of the target hosts. FireDaemon Inspektor starts resolving the hosts and then proceeds to check the digital signatures and the certificate expiry dates. Moreover, with the “--crl-check” option you can check for the presence of a certificate revocation list URI.
