Some believe that screensavers are a thing of the past, a piece of ancient software that might have had some utility on very early, modest machines. Others are of the opinion that screensavers are still handy, and can even fit in a more decorative role in certain situations. If you find yourself closer to the second category, Floaticons is a product that could be of interest.
This XP+ screensaver was optimized for the current version of Windows, in order to offer its users that nostalgic feel of the 00s.
The screensaver's name is not coincidental. Icons of various Windows editions do randomly shoot across the screen. This being said, if you are a Microsoft fan by any chance, you'll get even more eye candy, as the logos of Windows 98, XP, Windows 7, Windows 10, and even Linux will slide around your desktop following various trajectories.
As with any screensaver, Floaticons comes as an SRC package. Two things can be done with an SRC. You can either open the system's screensaver settings and add it to the list and schedule, or you can manually launch it whenever you feel like it.
In case you get a '0xc0000135', you might want to install the .NET Framework 2.0, which will most likely resolve the issue. Another interesting aspect of this screensaver would be its support for multiple displays. Not all screensavers are built to do that, the main screen being the only one running the piece. Each screen will have a different logo swirl around as well as another path, yet the timing stays the same.
Floaticons is an XP-based screensaver for nostalgic users that want to make their idle machine look like two decades ago. Overall, an interesting and entertaining project.
