Gbridge

Gbridge is an application that supplies you with user-friendly tools for sharing files, synchronizing data and remotely backing up important information by creating a Virtual Private Network (VPN). It only requires a Gmail account.

The installation procedure may take a while to complete, and Gbridge needs to set up a VPN driver to work properly. At startup you are required to specify your Gmail credentials for logging in.

The GUI is easy to navigate. It is made from a regular window spanned into multiple panels for viewing Gtalk friends, creating secure shares and automatic synchronization jobs, examining links, and looking into the log area for program activity and any errors.

It is possible to disallow all your personal computers from seeing the current one on the network, chat with friends and invite them to use Gbridge, as well as create secure shares by indicating a folder, share name and description, along with friends to allow permission for. Any file types can be excluded from the share, and it is possible to restrict user access with a password.

Incoming and outgoing links can be separately investigated, along with the virtual IP address, host name and status. What's more, you can back up secure shares by setting the task frequency and saving directory, as well as share the desktop with a friend.

The tool did not put a strain on PC performance in our evaluation, consuming low CPU and memory. It has a good response time and did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. However, we failed in our attempt to create autosync jobs. Otherwise, Gbridge can be easily used by anyone.
