Gin rummy is a two-player game in which the goal is to pick up and discard cards so as to end up with as many melds as possible, while getting rid of ‘deadwood’ cards that are not grouped with any of the other ones in your hand.

Gin - Rummy does not include a multiplayer mode, but you do have three difficulty levels to choose from, so the AI should be able to provide a challenge even to experienced players.

If you have never played gin rummy before, you can read the in-game instructions to understand the basics. In any case, the core mechanics are very simple, although formulating complex strategies will take a bit more experience.

At the start of the game, each player is dealt ten cards, and they must pick up and drop one each turn, taking them from the discarded pile or the deck.

Melds are formed by grouping three or more cards of the same rank or by creating runs of three or more cards in sequence. Deadwood cards, on the other hand, do not fit into any of these groups, and they need to be eliminated as quickly as possible.

When a certain number of cards have been grouped, you can choose to ‘knock’. If the value of the deadwood cards in your hand is less than what your opponent is holding, you receive a certain number of points, based on the difference. However, if the opposite is true, you lose points and suffer an additional penalty.

If all the cards in your hand fit into melds, you can declare Gin and receive a bonus or hold out for a Big Gin, which occurs when the ten cards in your hand and the one you have just picked up can all be grouped.
