Written in Python, git-cola represents a graphical interface for Git, enabling users to manage their Git repositories from the desktop. Besides Windows, it can be installed on Linux and Mac OS X.
To be able to set it up, you must have Python and Git installed. During installation, the tool can be instructed to integrate a "Git Cola Here" option with the Windows Explorer context menu.
git-cola makes it possible to launch Git repositories, create and merge branches, browse tracked files, export tarballs from Git, apply patches, use a browser to fetch history from remote repositories, view differences in old and changed files, as well as to search for content with grep.
Users may also start an interactive rebase, create and edit remotes and tags, search for commits, stash uncommited modifications, customize the editor, revert unstages or uncommited edts, as well as delete untracked files from the filesystem, among others.
Keyboard shortcuts are supported. You can set custom GUI actions, set up GPG for signed commits, play with configuration and environment variables, or modify language settings. Comprehensive user documentation can be examined at the developer's website, which explains each command supported by git-cola. It's free and open-source, release under the GPLv2 license.
