Hallo Northern Sky is a cool Windows app that helps you explore the night sky. It’s packed with the SAO, PPM, and Tycho-2 star databases, plus a bunch of updated deep-sky objects and Realsky images. Whether you’re an amateur astronomer or just curious about the stars, this software can help you simulate what’s up there.
The app also gives you access to external star catalogs like GSC and USNO CDROM. You can control computerized GoTo telescope mounts thanks to the universal ASCOM package. Plus, it includes a DDE-controlled Realsky viewer right from the main panel. Oh, and if you need to convert images, it can handle BMP/JPEG to FITS conversions too!
At first glance, the layout might look a bit complicated. But don’t worry! It’s just that this tool is loaded with features. Take some time to play around with everything to really get the most out of it. You can even use tooltips for quick descriptions of each parameter.
If you want to focus better on your work, switch to full-screen mode! There are zoom controls so you can get in close on objects or step back for a wider view. And resetting the layout? Just one click!
With Hallo Northern Sky, you can import data from FITS files which store scientific images and calibration info. You can print whatever image you're currently viewing—whether it's against a white or black sky—and copy photos straight to your clipboard for use in other tools.
This tool has built-in text editors that let you tweak information about asteroids and comets easily! Basic editing functions like cut, copy, paste, and delete are all available. Plus, you can update data from the Internet or customize text styles like font and color.
A super handy feature lets you search for constellations, stars, deep-sky objects, planets—you name it! Just type in what you're looking for or browse preset lists. Double-click an object on your list and voilà—it shows up on your map!
You can navigate to specific positions by entering details like right ascension and declination. Feel free to flip maps around or keep North facing up! You can show/hide various grids and activate night mode too.
The app updates what’s shown based on real-time data or your custom input (like year or month). Don’t forget: setting your location accurately (time zone included) is key for getting correct star positions!
If you're diving into astronomy whether as a newbie or pro, Hallo Northern Sky has got everything covered!
