Icy Radio

Icy Radio is a program which allows you to listen to a few radio stations from all over the world.

This is a portable software, so installing Icy Radio is not required. It means that you can place the tool on a removable device, plug it into any computer and directly run its executable file. Plus, your Windows registry items will not be changed.

The interface of the application is clean, attractive and intuitive. You can play the current, previous or next station, adjust the volume and locate new stations.

In the list you can check out the name, quality and genre of each station. You can add it to a favorites list and then edit its group, name, URL, information and bit rate.

On top of that, you can edit groups, import a favorites list from an XML file and record music in the MP3 format.

You can view details about a particular station, enable Icy Radio to stay on top of other apps, to minimize the system tray and to resume play on start, change and edit themes, configure recording settings (e.g. encoder, quality), and more.

The program uses a low-to-moderate amount of system resources, has a very good response time and didn't freeze, crash or pop up errors. The sound quality of the MP3 recordings is excellent. On the other hand, there is no help file available and we were not able to input a new station into the list.

We were not able to play stations that we edited in the favorites list. There are two search functions available - for the items that are already displayed in the list and for locating new stations. The latter search function did not work in our case (it kept displaying all available channels, no matter what we typed).

To sum it up, Icy Radio is a pretty good program for accessing online radio stations but it still needs some work at this moment. We recommend it with reservations.
