iMiser Research Assistant is a Windows software application whose purpose is to help you save and organize webpages, links, email messages, images, plain text data, as well as HTML, RTF, DOC and PDF files in a database.
It works with IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Avant Browser, and other web browsers and RSS news readers.
The layout is not intuitive so you need to spend some extra time experimenting with the built-in features in order to understand how it works. If you don’t know where to get started, you can have a look at the help manual.
It doesn’t offer support for a clean feature lineup so you may find yourself with a multitude of small panels in the main window, each one with specific functions.
iMiser Research Assistant lets you make use of a floating panel where you can drag and drop the items that you want to save in the database. It also employs a wizard for importing data in the database, and you may provide details about the name of the file or enter a custom title, pick a date, and assign keywords.
You are allowed to save documents, selected text data from your web browser, word process or any program that displays text, images, webpages, as well as all text on a webpage. Plus, you may use the built-in browser for surfing on the Internet.
The application lets you jump to the first, previous, next or last record, view all your records in the database, and perform searches throughout the entire database.
You can organize the information stored in the database using multiple folders and subfolders, which are displayed in a tree view.
You can back up the database so you can easily restore it in case something goes wrong, print data, view or delete images, email the current record, optimize and repair database entries, and test database integrity.
We have tested the utility on Windows 8.1 and noticed several bugs. The program becomes unresponsive upon accessing different entries stored in the database.
IMiser Research Assistant integrates a pack of useful features but it still needs a GUI facelift in order to make the process more intuitive and easier to work with.
