Infinitex

LaTeX developers looking for an elegant source code editor can take a look at Infinitex. It takes a modern approach toward LaTeX IDEs, featuring a compiler, math formula editor, simple text editor, and templates to help you get familiarized.

At startup, you can choose between two modes: science (for LaTeX) and non-science (for basic text editing). The two modes have distinct characteristics, even from a visual point of view. For example, science mode has a dark theme and a lot of options while non-science node is engulfed in a white theme and contains only standard (but useful) text editing tools.

A simple draft is loaded by default into the LaTeX editor and you can use templates for a thesis, presentation or resume (CV). The source code editor shows line numbers, has split view and gives you the possibility to easily write math formulas by helping out with suggestions (similar to Visual Studio's IntelliSense). You can open TeX files, modify them or create new files and compile them as TeX.

The Infinitex extension has more than just an aesthetical purpose. It provides access to collaboration tools for creating and opening projects, searching books and papers, switching to simple text mode (white theme), and facilitating a link to LaTeX documentation.

As for the simple text editor, you can change the heading style, font, emphasis mode (including strikethough effect), underline text, use subscript and superscript, create numbered lists, set the paragraph alignment, and more.

Infinitex is easy to use and has a sophisticated interface for LaTeX code editing and compiling, together with a simple text editor for common word-related operations. Unsurprisingly, it had minimal impact on PC performance in our tests and worked smoothly on the latest Windows edition. It's ideal for users interested in an elegant TeX editor without complicated features.
