What is Javasign?

Javasign

Javasign is a cool software written in Java that helps you create a digital signature and timestamp for your documents. You can use it with a smart card or even a token file in p12 format. It’s pretty handy!

How Javasign Works

This software works with smart cards that follow the ISO 7816-4 standard. It uses special encryption and decryption methods based on PKCS #15 compliant cards to keep everything secure.

Modes of Operation

  • Smart Card: This mode lets you perform signing and verification directly using the functions on your card. You can set it up to work with the cryptoki library provided by the card vendor, or you can use an internal Java driver for low-level APDU commands.

  • P12 File: In this mode, Javasign utilizes an external file in standard p12 format to store private keys and certificates securely.

Verifying Certificates

One of the great features of Javasign is its ability to verify the associated certificate and ensure it's from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). It even checks against the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) by downloading it from the CA's website using either HTTP or LDAP protocols.

Based on Italian Standards

This software is built following the Italian CNS specification for identity cards (Carta Nazionale dei Servizi), which adds an extra layer of reliability.
