jRuler is your go-to tool when you need to measure stuff right on your desktop. Whether it’s a small window, an image, or any object, this handy software is here to help you out!
This cool utility is built using Java, and the best part? You don’t even have to install it! Just double-click to launch it. Once you do, you'll see a neat square measuring tool with graduation marks on each side. It measures in inches only, which keeps things simple.
Now, here’s the catch: you can’t move the ruler around freely. Instead of placing the ruler over what you want to measure, you have to bring the object to it. That can be a little awkward at times! But don’t worry; if you click on the 'window' symbol in the main interface, jRuler turns into a movable window! This means you can drag it anywhere on your desktop—super convenient!
If you're like me and love multitasking, you'll appreciate that jRuler lets you run multiple instances. You just need to hit a button! The colored button splits into four sections: press one side, and voila—you get a new ruler popping up in that direction! You can even run up to five rulers at once.
While jRuler could use some tweaks for better accessibility, it's still pretty useful for graphic design tasks or measuring tiny objects. Sure, there are plenty of online virtual rulers and tools in graphic design apps that do similar things. But sometimes it's nice to have this lightweight utility handy!
