Translating an application requires lots of work, and managing the plethora of messages, alerts, text boxes, window titles, and labels and their translations can give you headaches. That is where Labels & Messages Editor comes in, providing a way for you to view and edit XML files that contain translations for an application's sections.
You might find it a little difficult to start working with the application from the ground up, especially since the usage guide is not exactly providing detailed instructions. We advise you to open the demo file first and explore its database to understand how everything works.
The thing you will notice first is that the main window is not the place where you can manage the content of the database. Instead, it displays statistics about the number of languages and the number of messages, as well as information regarding the messages, screens, labels, tips and classes for each language.
It is possible to manage the database contents from the "Interface" menu, by choosing to view the labels and the messages of the application.
The new window that opens comprises four tabs, each with a designated role. The first one reveals, once again, database statistics, but a bit more detailed than in the main window.
The next tabs show generic text messages and alerts, window labels, tips, menu items, class labels, and so on. Each section features searching and translation options, as well as buttons for printing and exporting the data. To make sure the translation is correct, Labels & Messages Editor provides a data comparison tool between the languages in the database.
Although not very intuitive and lacking thorough documentation, Labels & Messages Editor might be of help to software developers who want to translate their application and need a way to track all the words and labels in the interface, the menus, and the secondary windows. The content of the XML file it creates can be altered, but note that such actions might prevent Labels & Messages Editor from opening it.
