Local Lister is a handy little tool that helps you keep an eye on all the devices connected to your local network. It’s super simple and portable, making it a great choice for anyone who just wants to check their network status without any fuss.
This program scans a user-defined range of IP addresses and tells you which devices are online or offline. If all you need is to see what’s up with your network, Local Lister gets the job done nicely. It’s pretty easy for beginners to use, plus you can set the scanning range however you like.
But here’s the catch: Local Lister doesn’t show hostnames. So, you’ll need to know each device's IP address if you want to figure out what's online or offline. Once you've picked your IP range, just hit start and let it work its magic.
The thing is, while it's scanning, it doesn’t give you any updates or feedback on how long it will take. You just have to wait and see! Also, be aware that once the scan starts, the app becomes unresponsive. If you want to stop it early, you'll have to force quit the program.
On the visual side of things, Local Lister isn’t winning any design awards. Sure, it doesn't need a flashy look since it's just a basic network scanner, but it does seem a bit outdated when used on newer operating systems.
Overall, Local Lister aims to give you an easy way to check what's happening with your local devices—and it does that reasonably well. However, keep in mind that its features are limited and you'll get no feedback while scanning.
