If you have not yet figure out a smooth way of protecting your files and folders from intrusive eyes and would prefer a lightweight software utility, you might have just found it.

Lock Folder & File is the kind of application that, more than anything else, promises simplicity. What it does is protect your files and folders in the blink of an eye, rendering them inaccessible to anyone else who does not know the correct password.

After an uneventful setup process, the program prompts you with a straightforward user interface that should cater to the needs of those of you who are not exactly tech-savvy. On the other hand, aesthetical-wise, the app did not manage to catch our eye, but then, of course, this kind of observations tend to be rather subjective.

In any case, as said, the program can block access to your files and folders, and for that, you first need to set an admin password so that you can handle the restrictions you apply. Note that changing this passphrase subsequently is always an option.

Once you do that, you are free to select the files and folders you want to protect using the dedicated button in the GUI as drag & drop is not supported. A list is compiled in the main window, and locking or unlocking your documents is a one-click task.

As for what makes this application special, it should be said that, once your files or folders are locked, they are no longer visible, and no apps can access them. In other words, considering that no encryption is performed, your data is in no way modified.
