Lux is a VPN system that offers a new way to protect yourself from trackers, adware and any other threat lurking online.

The application comes with a sleek and user-friendly interface that is unlikely to give you any troubles regardless of your experience with similar tools. You can get started by clicking on the Plus button     and selecting the type of connection you want to create, be it Shadowsocks, Socks5 or one that you copy from clipboard. Depending on your choice, you need to fill it with different types of data, such as name, server, port, password or type of encryption, for instance.

The tool comes with a dashboard where you can check out the upload and download speeds per total or average. At the same time, the application provides minute details about all apps and their processes that send and receive data. In the Connection tab, you can preview a list of the Processes, Domain or Destination along with details like rule, network and type. If you want to add rules, the utility provides a way to test it.

As previously mentioned, the tool is different from Shadowsocks in the sense that the latter creates a local server on your system and that means apps need to understand the socks/http to send and receive data.

Lux is designed to intercept connections and then decide whether and how to proxy them, whereas apps don’t even notice the protocol. Moreover, the tool works on a Layer 7: Application layer as well as Layer 3: Network layer. For the time being, the app doesn’t support IPV6.
