Although there are hundreds of hash tools out there, most of them tend to focus on a single hash and do not permit parallel calculations. Granted, calculating different hashes for small files is a relatively simple task, however the same cannot be said about their large counterparts.

multiSum is a tiny console utility that allows you to collect MD5, SHA and CRC from various large files in a single pass.

According to the developer, it employs a thread per selected hash to leverage multi-core CPUs. The direct advantage of the method stems from the fact that the total number of hashes that can run in parallel are going to be restricted by the memory bandwidth and not by the IO or CPU, like it happens with most hashers.

It is worth mentioning that the output file is customizable and hence, you can generate MD5, SFV or anything else you need for your projects. As far as the supported hashes are concerned, you can count on MD5, SHA1, several SHA2 and SHA3 as well as CRC32, the latter being a fast variant that is known to outperform the native windows function. The developer intends to include two extra hashes, namely KangarooTwelve and Blake2, in the near future.

The app can be accessed with Command Prompt or PowerShell. Nevertheless, it includes a comprehensive list of features with corresponding summaries, so take a time to have a look over them. A noteworthy feature is the benchmark mode that allows you to test hash speeds.

MultiSum is a tool that addresses anyone who needs to do parallel calculations on large files. Not only does it calculate several types of hashes available in a single read, but also comes with less restrictions regarding the total number of calculations it can make.
