My Computer provides shortcuts to your local, removable, network and media disk drives. This is a desktop gadget designed for computers running Windows Vista or 7, which features several backgrounds and themes. It doesn't contain complicated options or configuration parameters, making it accessible to all types of users.
The interface is made from a small frame that shows the local, removable, network and media drives (whatever you have available), namely the volume letter and label, along with the free space and its representation in percent (out of the total space).
Any changes in disk space are immediately taken into account by the widget. Double-clicking a drive brings it up to the screen in the default file browser.
As far as program options are concerned, you can disable any type of drive (but not a handpicked volume), display shortcuts links to "My Computer" and "Network Places" too, as well as cycle through multiple widget backgrounds and drive icon themes until you find something you like.
Evidently, you can tinker with other options shared between most desktop gadgets, such as making the frame stay on top of other windows, moving it to any part of the screen, or changing its transparency level.
Unsurprisingly, the software application didn't put a strain on the overall performance of the machine in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't hang or crash.
To wrap it up, My Computer offers a very simple solution for helping you keep an eye on the free space available on each drive, as well as for quickly accessing the volumes.
