MyDNSMon is a cool tool mainly made for network admins and tech-savvy folks who are into networking. This lightweight app listens for DNS packets on an Ethernet connection and grabs info about where those packets are coming from and going to, along with the DNS queries and responses.
This software operates only in the command console. It uses Npcap to catch network packets and show you the details of what's inside them. Just a heads up, you need to have a recent version of Npcap installed on your system for MyDNSMon to work.
When you launch MyDNSMon, it checks if Npcap is present. If it's there, it scans all available network interfaces and lists them out. Each interface gets its own number. Your first step is to type in the number of the interface you want MyDNSMon to keep an eye on. Remember, it only supports Ethernet networks!
Once you pick an interface, MyDNSMon starts monitoring all the DNS packets flying around that network. If you want it to stop, just close the app or hit CTRL + C on your keyboard.
Whenever it spots a packet, MyDNSMon will show detailed info right in the command console window. By default, you'll see when it was detected, the source and destination IP addresses and port numbers, along with the domain that was queried and its responses. Plus, you can save this output to a file!
You can add some extra parameters too! For example, if you use “/basic” as a parameter, it'll include response types in the output. Want more details? Add “/detail” for info like UDP headers or protocol types! And if you're looking for everything in one go? Just throw “/all” as an argument when running MyDNSMon.
This handy tool came about because people needed help troubleshooting DNS resolution issues. It helps network admins see what responses they’re getting for each DNS query! Not only does it display all fields in the DNS packet, but you can also save that information to a file too! So if you're ready to give it a try or learn more about
