National Parks Free Screensaver

Anyone from the US, and maybe even outside of it, has heard about the famous  Yellowstone and  Yosemite national parks. National Parks Free Screensaver is a software application that promises to bring some of that majestic beauty to your monitor.

The screensaver is nothing more than a slideshow of images taken from both  Yellowstone and  Yosemite national parks, more exactly their main attractions. Those who've seen the park with their own eyes and even those who haven't and want to will enjoy the beauty and professionalism with which the photos were taken. If you love forests, lakes, mountains that have an almost mystical feel to them, then you will truly appreciate the beauty of this software application.

Despite the simplistic nature of the screensaver, there are several features that can be customized to fit your tastes. For example, you can adjust the image keep and transition time, the digital clock can be switched between 12h and 24h formats, and you can even choose to display an FPS counter. For better compatibility with your desktop, you can sync the app to use the desktop's settings, so there is no mismatch.

While the way the pictures are taken is breathtaking, their quality is a bit lacking by today's standards. During our testing on a 1920x1080 monitor, the app showed severe signs of pixelation in most pictures, and an abnormal stretch of the image. This is because the app was created when there were no, or at least few wide-screen monitors. This drawback does not make the app obsolete on modern systems; it just makes it better to be used by those of you still using older gear.

National Parks Free Screensaver manages to impress us with a gallery of wonderful pictures, and despite the fact that it isn't recommended for modern monitors, it is a great addition for any nostalgic running average-to-low hardware.
