Files on your computer are never safe, but you can always take extra measures to at least put some obstacles in the way. Some file types come with support for password protection, while others need to be processed with applications like NeoCrypt just to make sure only you have access to them.

All the application has to offer is found in an intuitive interface, with different descriptions so you don’t get stuck along the way. Batch processing is supported, but files or entire folders need to be added through dedicated browse dialogs, because dropping them over the main window has no effect.

There isn’t a particular kind of file you need to load, so you’re free to protect anything. A drop-down menu helps you decide which algorithm to use, with options for AES, BlowFish, CAST-128, DES, IDEA, RC2, RC4, RC5, SkipJack, as well as the popular Triple-DES. There’s also a small panel which shows the bit type used by the algorithm.

For the process to go as intended, you also need to provide a security key so the algorithm can be built. Unlike others of its kind, the application allows you to provide a list of passwords, just so you don’t write them for every operation. With them in the list, you need to select the ones you want to use, making decryption even harder for those attempting it without your consent.

Looking in File Explorer at the file itself might make you think nothing happened, since no other extension is added. Opening the file makes the associated editor believe it’s corrupt, so nobody suspects a thing. Decryption is done from the same window, simply by switching to that particular mode, but you also need to make sure you select all passwords used.

On an ending note, NeoCrypt bundles up a pretty impressive list of algorithms with which to make sure your files remain private. Multiple files can be encrypted with the same parameters at the same time, while the possibility to use more passwords for encryption makes the whole process even stronger, and secure.
