What is ngspice?

ngspice

ngspice is a cool, open-source tool that helps you simulate circuits. If you're into building or experimenting with electric and electronic circuits, this software can be super handy!

What is ngspice?

The program is built on the foundation of Spice3f5, Cider1b1, and Xspice. The team behind ngspice wanted to make it better than the spice3f5 circuit simulator. Plus, it works well with PSPICE and LTSPICE. It can even read HSPICE device libraries from semiconductor foundry PDKs, which is great for simulating integrated circuits.

What Can You Do with ngspice?

You can use ngspice to simulate all sorts of circuits! Whether you're working with diodes, transmission lines, JFETs, MOSFETs, bipolar transistors, or other devices—all these components can be interconnected in your projects. It doesn't matter how simple or complex your circuit is; from single gates to intricate setups, this app has got you covered!

A Variety of Models Available

This software offers dozens of models for various elements—analog ones as well as passive and active components. You really get a lot of flexibility when building your circuits!

Getting Started with ngspice

You'll kick things off by adding your circuits as a netlist along with an output that could include one or more graphs showing current, voltage, and other important electrical quantities. Just keep in mind that ngspice doesn't have schematic entry. So you'll need to input everything via file or command line.
