With the introduction of the gadget system, Windows tried to revolutionize the way a computer is used. Many other engines appeared, with an example being Yahoo! Widget Engine, which functions in a similar manner. For this particular engine, Note Box adds a configurable, slim notepad on the desktop.
Since it’s specially created to run with Yahoo! Widget Engine, it needs to be installed on the target computer. The gadget itself is pretty lightweight, with the possibility to have it stored, and carried around on a thumb drive along with the entire collection of widgets. Integration in the engine takes about a couple of seconds.
Once on the desktop, it’s fully ready to be used. With a link to the clipboard, any text can be pasted directly, coming in handy for saving important bits of info from over the web. Needless to say that an empty note can also be filled with text through manual input.
There’s not really a limit to the amount of text to add, with a slider showing up to be able to scroll through content. The box can be resized to custom specifications, while text wrapping prevents an additional horizontal slider from becoming available, thus blending text according to the widget width. Like any other widget, it can be forced to stay on top of everything else, to ignore mouse interaction, or have opacity level adjusted.
