Writing is among the first operations that got enhanced because of the evolution of the computer. Even old tools remain in Windows, in case you don’t really need text for complex projects. In this regard, NotePad SX comes with a series of features to be just a little above the Windows utility with a similar name.
Taking only a little time to get installed on your computer, this application can be put to the test to see how can be of use. The visual interface might not quite appeal to everyone, but there are several styles to go through, as well as the possibility to manually pick a color for the background and foreground.
Most of the application’s space is the canvas you write on. Unlike the Notepad utility in Windows, this one gives you the possibility to also change font related parameters. In other words, you can change the style of the letters you write with, color, and several more. Even so, you can only open plain text file, while saving is done to TXT, as well as HTML.
There are, however, several functions that differentiate it from the Windows plain text editor. For instance, you can quickly change all characters to lowercase or uppercase, and even randomize casing, function which is named fun character case.
In addition to casing, there’s the possibility to insert various other details like time and date, random character strings, remove elements, regional details, reverse, sort, or transform. Unfortunately, they’re not really of much help, especially since you can’t locally save to anything other than TXT and HTML.
In fact, NotePad SX is mostly suitable for simple tasks like taking notes, since it’s got a feature to always stay on top of other windows. You can use multiple tabs to easily differentiate the notes you take, while the status bar lets you know the current line you’re on.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that NotePad SX doesn’t quite manage to live up to expectations. The set of features might seem abundant, but they don’t really provide the flexibility nor practicality you’re looking for in a text editor. File support leaves a lot to be desired, which might get you tempted to look for alternatives.
