Taking notes can make a difference when gathering info for research, or other activities. Sure enough, this simply means writing text strings of interest in a dedicated environment. Exactly with this purpose in mind, Notes By George! is a lightweight notes editor with multiple slots, which can sit on your desktop for quick text editing.
Once installed, and launched, a classic window frame shows up on your desktop, with a colored background, clear, and intuitive set of controls. Accommodation is a walk in the park, with most of the window space representing the text edit area, while extra, and navigation controls are found in an upper toolbar.
The note can be moved on the desktop, and minimized to system tray, although this option needs to be selected from the options panel first. Unfortunately, you can’t keep more notes, or instances of the application on screen at the same time. However, you can work with multiple notes, but these are cycled through controls, or picked from a drop-down menu, changing the current layout.
Every note is fitted with its own color, which can easily be changed. Font is also customizable, with the possibility to modify style, type, attributes, size, and color. Luckily, each note can benefit from a different text style, but all characters inside a note are affected. Sadly, hyperlinks can’t be created, not even automatically, or pasting an existing link.
You’re able to find strings of interest in a couple of seconds with the built-in search function. The application looks through all notes, showing occurrences, and notes in dedicated panels.
There are some drawbacks too. For instance, the number of notes you can create is limited to number of alphabet letters, considering this is the way they’re saved. What’s more, there are no import, or export options, besides the possibility to print out notes.
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Notes By George! can help quickly take notes in a simple, customizable environment. Although in a limited number, note slots are enough to hold large content, but it could have used the option to at least export under plain text format.
