NovProg Portable

Whether you're a serious novelist or an amateur, discipline must be part of your writing routine since a laid back approach is a bad habit if you expect to deliver best results. In this case, you can use a tool like NovProg to keep track of your daily and overall progress.

NovProg (Novel Progress) comes in an installer and portable package, and the main difference between the two is that the portable edition can be kept on a USB flash drive and brought along with you wherever you go and decide to start up your laptop and write a chapter or two.

The utility is simply designed to show graphical representations (pie charts) of your daily and total progress, based on the word count. However, it doesn't actually have a text editor for you to write in.

Subsequently, it cannot automatically count your words. You have to use a separate word counting tool and then enter the result in this app.

Once NovProg is launched, you get started by adding a new novel. In addition to specifying the novel name, it's necessary to set the daily and total goal (word count), starting word count (default is 0), together with the range (start and end date).

After making this configuration, you can continue with your writing and return to NovProg at the end of the day to input the total amount of words typed. Two tabs can be accessed for viewing the total and daily progress.

The initial configuration can be edited anytime. What's more, you can create entries for additional novels if you're the type of person who works on multiple projects at the same time.

Taking everything into account, NovProg is not in any way a sophisticated writing tool but it can help you become more organized by learning to meet daily deadlines.
